FINANCIAL FRAUDSTER NEWS INVESTIGATIONS EXCLUSIVE LEGAL FRAUD EXPOSED: Freshfields Lawyers Accused of Abetting GDUK's Bid to Profit from admitted Libyan Deception, Leaving 'Magic Circle' Reputation in Tatters
LONDON, UK – In a damning new exposé, Financial Fraudster News Investigations can today reveal how a cabal of "Magic Circle" lawyers from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP are accused of a catastrophic failure of professional due diligence and an audacious attempt to further a multi-million-pound legal fraud.
Lawyers Sarah Parkes, Anthea Bowater, and George Ho, acting for defense giant General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited ("GDUK"), are alleged to have wilfully ignored an admission of deception by the State of Libya itself, pushing forward with a fraudulent claim to sell a prime London property.
This shocking development leaves the reputation of Freshfields and its lawyers in tatters, as they stand accused of a brazen scheme to profit from a fraud that the original perpetrator has already confessed to.
The Fraud and the Admission
The scandal revolves around a prime property at 7 Winnington Road, Hampstead, which was purportedly purchased with funds derived from the State of Libya. FFN Investigations has previously exposed how this narrative was based on what the courts have already identified as a "fraud on the court". The fraud was orchestrated by solicitor Mohamed Shaban, who made false statements to procure a default judgment against a property.
In a stunning turn of events, the State of Libya has now, in a legal consent order, made a definitive admission that statements submitted by Mohamed Shaban to procure a default judgment were false and caused significant financial loss to the Claimant. In essence, the State of Libya has "come clean" in an attempt to distance itself from the fraudulent acts and has thrown the deceitful solicitor, Mohamed Shaban, "under the bus" as a result of overwhelming evidence.
Freshfields' Catastrophic Failure and GDUK's Complicity
Despite this definitive admission of fraud, the legal team at Freshfields — Sarah Parkes, Anthea Bowater, and George Ho — are now accused of a catastrophic failure to perform the necessary due diligence. Rather than identifying and acting on this clear admission of fraud, they have instead embarked on an unethical and negligent course of action to further the very deception that the courts have already acknowledged.
On 21 August 2025, Freshfields sent a letter to Capitana Seas 2008 Trust, whose beneficial interest in the property is being fraudulently undermined, giving notice of their application to the Commercial Court for an order to sell the London property. This action, in light of a public admission of fraud, is viewed as a blatant attempt to manipulate the legal system for their client's benefit.
The Claimant, Capitana Seas 2008 Trust, sent a formal "Cease and Desist" letter to Freshfields and GDUK, stating that they are pursuing the sale of a property that was "obtained through Libyan state deception, ignoring admission of fraud". By continuing to pursue the sale, GDUK, a defense giant that receives significant government funding, is implicated in legal fraud and is attempting to profit from a scheme that has now been admitted by the original perpetrator.
As a legal commentator in FFN’s exclusive op-ed "The Erosion of Professional Standards," stated, this is a "damning indictment of a catastrophic failure in legal due diligence and professional responsibility". The conduct of these Freshfields lawyers is alleged to be contrary to the ethical and honest conduct expected of lawyers, never mind a firm of such a significant reputation.
A Call for Accountability
This investigation paints a damning picture of a professional services sector so preoccupied with the pursuit of a fee that it is willing to disregard its own ethical standards and disregard a definitive admission of fraud. The integrity of the British legal system and the reputation of its most senior law firms are now in question.
Freshfields, GDUK, and their legal team were contacted for comment but declined to provide a statement.
